Candidates:

Greg Archibald - I started as a financial advisor in 1997 with a mutual funds license, and shortly afterwards added a life license to my business. In 1998 I moved to Great West Life and began to concentrate on Group Benefits as an area of specialization. In recent years I have added a self insure option to my group benefits business and have had considerable success with this to date. In 2001 I left the in-house environment and began an independent career with full brokerage activities in the group and life insurance fields. I joined the IFB in 2004 and have grown to appreciate its value in the industry as one of the very few voices standing for the independent advisor in our industry. I have a strong appreciation for the role of compliance in our industry, and wish to help maintain the relevance of the compliance process to our clients as a first priority. I am a past director and Vice President of the Port Coquitlam Rotary club, and a past president / Commander of the Port Moody Power and Sail Squadron. This would be my first term as a regional director for the IFB and I look forward to assisting the organization and its members in maintaining a voice for independence in brokering our products in Canada.

Allan Donald - I have been in the industry as and agent / broker for the past 25 years. I served for six and one half years as a director on the insurance Council of Manitoba and have been a member of IFB for the past 15 years servicing as a member of the Board of Directors until 2008. In the past, I was a member of the executive and have served as the corporate Secretary / Treasurer and member at large. My Practice is almost exclusively "employee group benefits". I am married to Ann and have two grown sons and four grandsons. I would appreciate your support and pledge to continue to work for the "independent" way of doing business.

Luene Lafountaine - Luene La Fountaine has been in the Insurance Industry for 28 years in various capacities including senior management with leading Insurers. Luene founded Health Risk Services Inc. in 2000 and remains as working President/Owner of the company today. Health Risk Services is a combined full service Insurance Brokerage Operation for both personal and corporate portfolios as well as a Third Party Administrator for Corporate Benefit Programs. The company is Registered in both Alberta and BC and maintains clients through out both provinces. Luene is very aware of Canada's changing health care system and is focused on developing new and innovative ways of assisting Employers to provide effective plans that can be maintained now and into the future! Luene takes pride in dealing with each and every client on a "needs basis", theirs not hers! Therefore, HRS has grown considerably over the past years and now employs 3 full time staff and 2 contractors. Luene also remains committed to her industry and has been involved with the Independent Financial Brokers Association for the past 5 years in the role of Alberta Director. She has worked diligently to increase the IFB Association's awareness in Alberta and to grow attendance for their two annual education Summits. A current member of IFB'S mutual fund working group (Regulatory Affairs), Cheryl also volunteers as the Executive Director/co-founder of a women's networking group in Chatham, ON and an active member of NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness). As an independent financial advisor, Cheryl firmly believes in transparent governance models at all levels, including those of our regulatory bodies. Many independent advisors in smaller cities/towns are unaware of the benefits of being a member of IFB. Enhancing geographical representation (particularly in the smaller cities and towns) is paramount to strengthening IFB. Cheryl resides in Corunna, ON with her husband of 32 years, enjoys the beaches of Lake Huron and loves being a Grandma.

J. D. R. Randy Stevens - After graduating from St. Mary's University in Halifax with a B. Comm and MBA in the early 70s, I joined our family Real Estate Brokerage Business. Our firm was involved with Real Estate Brokerage, Land Development, Property Management and Building Construction. I switched careers in the late 80s to become a financial planner and investment adviser, a career I'm continuing to work at with our firm, Evangeline Securities Limited, as Senior Adviser and General Manager. I am well aware of the controls placed upon us by the Securities Commission and MFDA, some excellent, some not so good. I have had a Real Estate Broker's license from 1973 until recently. I'm a licensed Mutual Fund person, as well as having a full Insurance license to include life, health, and group. I am currently licensed as a mutual fund person in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ontario. I am the past Director of the Halifax-Dartmouth Real Estate Board, the Camphill Hospital, Abbey Lane Memorial Hospital, and Armdale Yacht Club, as well as past Chairman of Route Halifax St. Pierre Ocent Race, and current Rear Commodore of Chester Yacht Club. I am currently President of several US and Canadian Real Estate Investment Firms and Property Management firms. I am an avid sailor and great team player.

Carol-lee Whipple - More than 30 years experience in the Insurance Business, Carol-lee has worked with Employee Benefits, Health & Disability Insurance and Association programs. Carol-lee was President of a major Canadian Association for many years and has in depth knowledge of how programs can help members. Carol-lee lives in the province of Quebec, works in Ontario and serves members and employers across Canada. Her ability to explain what may seem like complex issues into simple understandable format in both official languages has certainly been an asset in her successful career. Carol-lee spent many years supporting brokers in their own businesses with many complex product lines. She is now devoted solely to her own clients. Carol-lee is associated with BairdBenefitsPlus, a provider of Association programs throughout Canada. In order to relax Carol-lee enjoys golfing with friends. Carol-lee has been a strong supporter of IFB, serving as a Board member since 2007.

Don Van Wyngaarden - I started in this business in 1978 as a career company life insurance sales representative. I've been a career company staff manager, a RIBO insurance broker, a group insurance sales manager, a life insurance brokerage manager and finally a mutual fund branch manager with my own book of life insurance and funds business. I've been a member of IFB since 1992. For many years I have benefited from the efforts of others who have stepped forward to serve on the board. I believe it is now my turn to become a member of the board to contribute back to the membership. My specific concern is for the mutual fund industry regulated by the MFDA. This regulator has lost sight of its purpose and is no longer providing a service to the mutual fund consumer. Compliance requirements now in place are NOT benefitting the consumer, the majority of whom do not understand much less read the documents we put before them. Professional financial advisors and compliance officers are unable to keep up with regulations that lawyers and bankers are devising. Mutual fund licensees are professionals that deserve to be trusted until they prove unworthy of that trust. RIBO brokers have just as much responsibility but are given the freedom to carry on doing business in a profitable manner. Life insurance salespeople are free to sell products with equal risk of financial loss, without the same degree of regulatory interference. Becoming a member of the board of the IFB is the way to confront the regulator to push back, restore simplicity and common sense to a once profitable business. If we fail, there will be no one left in the independent channel to take the place of the graying members in our association who today provide quality service and advice to a grateful consumer.

Nancy Zins - Nancy Zins started her Insurance career with Allstate Insurance in 1989 as an agent. During her years with Allstate, she sold primarily Auto, Home, Life and Disability Insurance products and in her capacity as agent, also was required to get involved in all aspects of Insurance such as underwriting, claims, customer service and sales. After seven years, Nancy left Allstate to work as a Broker to service clients by being able to represent many Insurance carriers instead of being limited to one. After several years working in a small Insurance brokerage, she switched her focus away from Personal lines of Insurance to a more exclusive focus on Financial Insurance products, such as Life, Disability, Critical Illness Insurance products and especially on Group Benefits. In 2003, Nancy started her own company, B.N.B. Financial Services Ltd. to provide confidential and professional insurance planning strategies to individuals and businesses with an emphasis on Group Benefits expertise. In 2006, Nancy became the Group Benefits Specialist for IFCG Ltd, her MGA. Nancy is also past President, past Vice-President and current membership committee board member of her BNI International chapter, an international business growth organization.
